FAQs
Frequenly Asked Questions
1. What is mediation and what is the role of a mediator?
Mediation is a voluntary process that helps people have calm, productive conversations about important family matters, like parenting, separation, or finances, with the help of a neutral third party.

As your mediator, my role is to create a safe and respectful space where everyone can be heard and where I can help you work together to find practical, lasting solutions. I do not take sides or make decisions for you, I guide the process and help you communicate effectively so that you can make informed choices that meet your family’s needs.
2. How does the mediation process work?
We usually start with an individual intake meeting, where each person meets with me separately. This gives you a chance to share your story, your concerns, and what you hope to achieve through mediation. The intakes last 90 minutes.

If both parties agree to move forward, we schedule joint sessions (via Zoom) to discuss the issues that matter most.

Some families reach agreements in just a few sessions, while others take more time, it all depends on your goals and comfort level.

Once you have reached an agreement, I prepare a Summary of Agreement for your review and next steps.
3. Is mediation confidential?
Yes, mediation is a private and confidential process. What is discussed during sessions cannot be shared or used in court, except
in very limited situations such as safety concerns or child protection matters.

Confidentiality allows everyone to speak openly and honestly, knowing that the focus is on resolution, not blame.
4. How long are mediation sessions?
Each session typically lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on what feels manageable and what you would like to accomplish.

You can choose shorter, more frequent sessions or longer meetings to move through things more quickly, we will work at a pace
that is comfortable for you.
5. What kinds of issues can mediation help with?
Mediation can support families in resolving many different kinds of issues, including:
-
Parenting schedules and decision-making responsibilities
-
Child and spousal support
-
Property and financial matters after separation
-
Co-parenting communication and conflict resolution
-
Planning for future changes such as relocation or new routines
Mediation helps you reach clear, personalized agreements that reflect your values and priorities.
6. Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Yes. I understand that balancing work, family, and other responsibilities can be challenging. That is why I offer evening and weekend appointments to make mediation as flexible and accessible as possible.
7. Do you offer bilingual services?
Absolutely. I am pleased to offer bilingual mediation services in English and French. You are welcome to speak in whichever language feels most natural or to switch between the two during our sessions.
